PODCAST: Instant Reactions to Luka Doncic's Lakers Taking Down Mavs, 107-99

Luka Doncic notched a triple-double in his first game against his former team as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Dallas Mavericks at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday night.

The day we spent the entire month of February dreading finally came and went on Tuesday, as the Dallas Mavericks took on Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers for the first time since the trade that shook the NBA landscape.

The game didn’t disappoint, as Doncic got off to a hot start, with his Lakers jumping out to a 16-point first-half lead. The Kyrie Irving-led Mavs fought back, though, tying the game at 91-91 with a little more than five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. In the end, Dallas could not overcome a 35.7-percent shooting night from the floor, and the Lakers closed out a 107-99 win.

Doncic, who made sure to talk trash (playfully) to his former Mavs teammates throughout the game, put up a triple-double of 19 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 assists. He also notched three steals and two blocks. Irving put his best foot forward despite not getting much help for most of the game, finishing with 35 points, seven rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocks.

On the latest episode of our Mavs Step Back podcast, we re-live all the important moments of this game and the feelings that came along with the final result. Is all hope lost, or can the eventual (soon?) return of Anthony Davis and Dereck Lively change things for the Mavs in a big way? Let’s talk about it.
