HOT TAKE: Could Mavs Actually Be Better Post-Luka Doncic Trade For This Season?

The Dallas Mavericks might lose the Luka Doncic trade when the dust settles in 10+ years. However, there's still hope for championships with Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis for the next few seasons.

Call it the bargaining stage of grief if you must… but after taking this week to let the news of the Dallas Mavericks trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis sink in… I’ve come to the conclusion that the sky isn’t falling after all. That is, at least not for this season.

On the latest episode of the Mavs Step Back podcast, my co-host Drew Johnson and I talk through how we’re feeling nearly one week after the biggest trade in NBA history went down. Doncic is only 25 and has a fabulous career ahead of him if he can stay healthy, but for this season and next season specifically, could Dallas actually get the best of this trade with the two-way production of Davis and Max Christie? Also… are we underrating the “addition-by-subtraction” aspect of Maxi Kleber being traded to the Lakers?
